The Fall of Targor

Image
6/7/2020 Things are looking bad for the Phandalin Five as Targor and his band of hobgoblin soldiers advance. Their two Elven allies are dead, Qili is under fire in her tree, and Droop is counting his last breaths as he pulls arrows from his wounded body. After freeing their trapped wolf, who promptly dashes off, the hobgoblins take up covered positions behind the trees surrounding the clearing to continue to pin down our heroes. That's when Jangle realizes he has one more trick up his sleeve. He pulls a scroll out of his pack and tosses it to Cade. "See if you can do something with this." He then insults a hobgoblin before zigzagging deeper into the forest, hoping to cover his tracks. Hearing the insult, Targor's elite guard begins to pursue the bard holding their prize. The first hobgoblin raider dashes to the west side of the camp only to be caught by another hidden bear trap, screaming in pain and rage. A passing hobgoblin stops to assist and disarms the trap, flin...

Phandelin Five Lay Trap for Targor

5/29/20 After thwarting a rather painful goblin ambush (for Jangle at least), our heroes patched themselves up, looted the goblin bodies, and took stock of their situation. Jangle recovered his Jade Frog and the Cragmaw amulet. Upon recovering the amulet, Jangle discovered an interesting property: its unique orange gem gave the appearance of internal flames. Droop mentioned that it was called "The Eye of Maglubiyet" and told of its history among the goblins. Qili recounted what she knew of the goblin god Maglubiyet: at eleven feet tall with black skin and fire erupting from his eyes, Maglubiyet is one to be feared and obeyed without hesitation. This information led the party to realize that the value of the amulet is not just ceremonial to symbolize the kingship, but it actually has the power to intimidate and command goblinoids. At the same time, a lone survivor returned to Cragmaw Castle to report to Targor that the heroes had overcome their ambush. Targor had been intrigue...

Phandalin Five Escapes Ambush by Goblin Guerrillas

Image
The Phandalin Five were making their way through Neverwinter Wood in search of Melarue Keep. Along the way, they met two suspicious elves preparing traps. Seems they are battling the Cragmaw Tribe of Goblins and had been raided by several hunting parties, killing several of their comrades. When Jangle asked about Melarue Keep, they indicated that it was still several miles ahead of them, West along the forest line. However, they warned that it had been overrun by the Cragmaws and that it was well-guarded. At this news, Jangle pulled out his Cragmaw royal amulet and put it around his neck. Several miles later, Droop was grazed by an arrow that barely missed his head. The party looked into the forest and saw a Goblin archer darting back into the trees. Thinking quickly, Jangle flashed his amulet and asked Cade to translate into Goblin, "Your king returns!" Cade did as instructed, gesturing toward Jangle as he showed off his amulet. Immediately a volley of arrows from every dire...
